Tees, turf, and why your driver contact keeps changing

Tee height, bamboo versus wood, and a simple way to stop topping the driver without a lesson.

If your driver contact is a mystery, check the tee before you overhaul the swing. Half a dimple of height change is enough to move strike from the crown to the face. Bamboo tees also break less, which means you are not constantly resetting height mid-round.

A starting height

For a 460cc driver, many players do well with roughly half the ball above the crown at address. Hybrids and fairway woods off a tee should sit much lower — our 2.75-inch tees exist for that. Irons generally do not need a tee on the course; if you use one on a par-3, keep it just enough to clear tight winter lies.

Repair what you use

Castle tees reduce the chunk of turf you take, but you should still flatten or replace displaced turf. A repair tool is for ball marks on greens, not for prying huge wedges of fairway. Pack both.
